JUAN GOMEZ

Juan is a Chicago-based animator who cites Tim Burton, European comics, and Rugrats among his many influences. The illustrator
of Rafael Nieves’ adaptation of The Bells has also collaborated with him on Chillin’s (Moonstone Comics, 1997), an anthology of horror stories about terrible tykes. Gomez’s clean, simple style
strikes just the right balance between humorous cartooning
and more serious traditional illustration which is a perfect match for Nieves’ vision of The Bells. The version presented in Graphic Classics: Edgar Allan Poe has been digested from the full
25-page story. The original was published by Tome Press in 1999, and is available at www.calibercomics.com. Currently, Juan is deeply involved in Who? The Hex!, a web cartoon series of his own creation.
