JIM NELSON

Jim Nelson's work has appeared in fantasy role-playing games, books and magazines. He has been represented in the juried annual Spectrum: The Best in Contemporary Fantastic Art as both an artist and art director. Jim is also an award-winning graphic designer and a die-hard football fan. He claims artistic influences from Rembrandt to Wrightson, and contemporary fantastic artists like De Es Schwertberger and Zdzislaw Beksinski rank among his favorites.

Jim lives and works in Chicago. He is currently working on Wizards of the Coast’s popular Magic: The Gathering card game and is also involved in projects for White Wolf, Weekly Reader and Riotminds.

For his back cover painting for Graphic Classics: H.G. Wells Jim chose a scene from The Time Machine in which the Time Traveller and Weena stumble upon a hall full of huge, inexplicable machines in the Palace of Green Porcelain. “I loved the idea of those machines,” says Jim, “which represent a technology beyond the understanding of the Time Traveler, rotting away in a ruined museum in the far future.”

Jim Nelson's work also appears in Graphic Classics: H.P. Lovecraft.
