SHEPHERD HENDRIX Shepherd Hendrix began his comics career in 1991 as an inker on DC Comics’ Swamp Thing. He also penciled and inked Restaurant at the End of the Universe with Steve Leialoha. In the late 1990s, he left the industry and began working as a storyboard artist, background designer, and concept artist, using both traditional and digital mediums, collaborating with LucasArts and EA Games. In 2006, he returned to comics, illustrating the Eisner Award-nominated Stagger Lee, written by Derek McCulloch, for Image Comics. You can find pages from Stagger Lee in Black Comix: African American Independent Comics, Art & Culture, and more examples of Shepherd’s art at www.shepko.com. African-American Classics:
